Hi Everyone,

I was awarded my "plan b" permit this morning from Glacier Point, meaning I have to camp the first night somewhere other than Little Yosemite Valley. What is the first and or best camping spot? Can I camp along the panorama trail, or are there any good spots along the Buena Vista Trail prior to reaching the mono meadow trail junction? Good spot means flat and near water; good views are a bonus. As always thanks for the expert advice and opinions.

You are suppose to hike towards Mono Mdw Trail...
http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/upload/Wilderness-Trailheads_07-14-2013_28x38-1.pdf
You'll find rings next to the river where the trail gets really close. (you are not allowed to camp
near the bridge)
No camping along Panorama Trail.

You used to be able to camp near it. at the junction of the high trail and panny trail...
And there is typically water in that gully...

But that's all I'll say.

Have fun

If it's early enough where crossing The Illilouette is dicey... I'd highly consider just hiking Panorama Trail and then
hanging a right and heading along the high trail towards Starr King. There's a couple of streamlets you
can get water out of. You can camp at

"And then ziggy over to near Starr King for the night:" location pix here:

Thanks Sir,

So there are fire rings along illilouette creek?

yes

(at both the location I mentioned and also at the crossing of Illilouette further upstream)

(any ring at the bridge is illegal and should not be used)
(esp. since not allowed to camp there)

Have fun

You might consider not making a fire in that fire ring considering likely dry conditions.
I look at fire rings as a reminder that the site might be a comfortable site, and has been used before.

This is a campsite on Illilouette Creek, although probably further up and not in the direction you want to go.

Does the "High Trail" merge into the Mono Meadow trail @ 7/10 of a mile south of the Panorama Trail? How far from the Panorama Trail is that ziggy site? I'm taking newbies, including a 9 year old on this trip, so I'm trying to make it as direct and easy as possible. Thanks for the help.

The Ziggy Site is right here
(it's a bit off trail with a minor bit of shrubbing)

If you follow the original map of the nps above... and follow the arrow down to Illilouette... you have to climb back up this-a-way
or that-a-way... either crossing the bridge over the Illilouette or taking 1 of 2 ways back over to LYV after fording the Illilouette.
If you just go Panny on the get-go you are closer to your goal of LYV...
The High Trail is very very mellow after you get to here
