Ill be doing the loop from rafferty TH to vogelsang to lyell TH. Not sure if well get Lyell or Rafferty permits, so not sure which way well go. Regardless, where is a good place to sleep? The HSC? Ireland lake, Evelyn lake? Ive heard Evelyn can be very windy. Main concern, wind. We are not bringing tents or bivys. Trip is in mid July

Im thinking at that ridge between Ireland and Evelyn.

Was just there. I think the ridge you're referring to is Tuolumne Pass. Nice area and views. Posted a pic from there on a thread called Mamoth peak to Emeric Lake. I think the photos start at 9 from that area. Unless you mean off trail. Either way I think it's a good location and the photos should help a bit.

There's a pretty lake just west of that ridge, and east of Evelyn...

My contribution to it (first night I spent backpacking in Yosemite):

There is a BP section (with bear boxes) about 200 yards north ( just off trail) of the HSC - near the solar outhouse (sadly which was boarded up last season.)
Better are up in the trees about 200 feet just north of the middle of Fletcher - up on the little rise....(restrictions apply lakeside)
My favorite though is at the far east end of Fletcher - two nice, shaded, secluded spots, up in the trees, just north of the base of the inlet waterfall coming down from Townsley.

Evelyn does get windy but east side up in the trees works.
Ireland has 2 flat spots above & north of the lake..but often gets .windy there too..

There's about a zillion places to camp in that area. Make sure you go check out
Fletcher and Townsley... and if u fish u may want to zip up to Hang-on Basket..
There are Cutthroat Trout up there.

Found a really neat little pondlette on way up to Rafferty couple weekends ago.
Said to self "self.. you need to come back here... nice easy trip... you need a
nice easy trip for a change"
Anywho. Lots of whitebarks which block the wind astoundingly well.
Wind can be a ripping... and get behind those... and ur golden.

Have fun exploring

Awesome yall, thanks again. I think I will stay between Ireland and Evelyn, although I like the fletcher lake spot, so possibly there. Still dont know what route we're taking, but wont be hard to reach those spots regardless

Saw lightning/thunder 3 days straight, canceled this due to lack of gear.
