How freakin' high were they???

I like to stay in shallower water, or close to, in case a cramp sneaks up (thankfully not yet)... Jump like that nearby would not be fun! Serious blacked-out bits tho! thumbs up

Wow. The jump off the high rock at Rainbow Pool was enough for me. If I were them, I'd have my hands much lower to protect the family jewels during landing.

Tanks, bird, for exposing that picture to the public...
That was about 25 years ago at Peeler Lake (which, as everybody knows, drains to both the Pacific Ocean and the Great Basin).
25 years ago explains having to splice together the old photos. Remember having to decide how many rolls of film to take on a trip??
I was younger then...I am wiser now.

So what do your children think about that photo montage? Have they followed in your footsteps? Or do they chalk that up to crazy stuff that Dad did back in the day?

Re the kids...I have always said that you have to make backpacking fun to get the kids hooked, so, with safety the first consideration and fun a close second, we almost always were on the lookout for good jumping rocks on our trips. Key features...deep water as verified by an adult (we bring speedo swim goggles along) and an easy get out spot.

The highest that the kids have gone off is 43 feet as measured by a rope, down in the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne. Probably not as high as the one shown above.

The kids have jumped in Yosemite

In Oregon

In Desolation Wilderness

Off of piers

And in caves
