Yosemite Creek Campground Trailhead
May 12, 2015 02:43PM
Looking at trying to do a semi-loop Mem. Day weekend w/ permit for Yosemite Creek Campground TH > Eagle Peak/El Cap > North Dome / Indian Rock > Porcupine Creek TH.

1) Looks like I can go in through a trail off of Tioga Road that is due east of Yosemite Creek Campground proper as opposed to the formal TH listed on the TH map (which is due north). The trail distance isn't much different but I'd be able to park ~2miles from where I would exit at Porcupine Creek TH (as opposed to ~6 miles). Anyone ever go in this way?

2) Anyone know the current snow / mud conditions? I saw a March trip report for Mirror Lake up around ND and down Yosemite Falls (http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?17,79117) but the picture links are broken and weather has changed quite a bit since then.

3) Also the above report said no water after Lehamite Creek along the North Dome Trail and wondering if that still holds? Royal Arch Creek and some unnamed creek show up on my map but possibly are seasonal and dry at this point? I guess if there is snow on the ground I could use that.

Have parked here multiple times:

and head west from there... past Porcupine Creek Campground... and onto
Old Tioga Road...

Old Tioga Road... is NOT maintained... and ... is very overgrown with loads of deadfall
and very small pine trees which make it not fun for most... it's only gotten worse and
I can only recommend it for anyone who really wants to hike the old roads.
Personally I doubt I will even do the road/trail again... instead I will just xcountry down
or do a nicer route that is all xcountry...

But yeah, I would think that would not be a problem to go that way with your permit.
you can then walk on trail and do the entire loop... the section from Porcupine TH
to where your car is... that section IS maintained and in GREAT shape.

As for water... and snow and such... after each of these storms the snow has been
melting incredibly quickly! But... you can rest assured that Indian Canyon Creek
and Lehamite will have running water. I would expect Royal Arch too since we've
been having these storms recently... go figure.

Have fun
