Women backpackers....

Thought some of you might enjoy this post about women and backpacking, just in time for Mother's Day.

My wife and I wrote it together, and had some fun doing it!

Thanks for the great post. I happen to be one of those lucky ones whose significant other enjoys the outdoors. She will willingly go on backpacking trips with me. smiling smiley

On one trip a couple of years ago, we went to Rae Lakes out of Onion Valley. The original plan was to camp at Charlotte Lake the first night, and move to Rae Lakes on the second day. I was worried about her getting over Kearsarge Pass (~11,800'). Well, I was surprised and delighted when she wanted to continue over Glen Pass (~11,900') and on to Rae Lakes that same day. I knew then and there that she was pretty tough.

And, if I have to carry more weight, spend more time doing chores, and doing the cooking, it's all worth it! grinning smiley

Ha...I think the one who wants to go backpacking the most, may do the most...

My husband and I carry close to equal weight in our packs (and we end up carrying too much for most people's tastes.) Now that will change on our next backpack...I'll carry both the bear can and the tent...he can carry my Ridge Rest. He's had a hip replacement and backpacking was not really recommended anymore but we'll try it out anyway. I can't wait.

And I've always done the cooking and clean up when backpacking. We both participate in the set up and take down of camp. He does do the tough job of catching trout to supplement our regular meals, though. smiling smiley
