Had fun watching Lake Don Pedro fill back up this last year...
Every time drove by stopped and took a photo... (missing some of winter because
go in 140 often in winter... but... still looks fun)
From Nov 26, 2015 to July 7, 2016
(after then the lake no longer was rising)

Enjoy...

Thank you!!!

It was really interesting to see the gradual changes over the course of the trips.

Nice to see it all at once! Really drives home how much it changed.

Thank you. We don't go into the park that way so it is interesting to see the changes.

With all the attention focused on Oroville Dam, there has been little mention of the concern of a Don Pedro Dam overflow. But the reservoir was withing 3 feet of the top on Tuesday (per http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article132779679.html). Add that the Tuolumne River channel below Don Pedro is not terribly robust and that the San Joaquin River it flows into is almost at flood stage near Vernalis and there are real reasons for concern.

Don Pedro Reservoir level can be seen at https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?site_no=11287500 . Currently at ~826.3 ft. The top is 830 ft.

Was just thinking about this. To think that in the last few years, it was shocking to see how low the level was. Seemed to be 80-90% empty.

What about the San Luis Reservoir along the 152? I recall the days when the water was fairly close to road level, decades ago. Now you can hike out to the middle. I read an article last summer that it was at its lowest levels in 25 years. Now it's close to capacity, I believe.

San Luis was on the north side of 152 about a month ago.
I've been driving by there a lot recently... unfortunately it's very early in the
morning and after the sun has set...

So... I haven't seen recently... but as of last weekend... it was something
like 94% full. Pretty amazing how much water has come down.

Atmospheric River

Yes, San Luis is at 95%. All the major CA reservoir fill %'s can be seen at http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/reservoirs/RES . Note that since San Luis is a diversion dam primarily filled by pumping from the CA aqueduct, its level doesn't always correlate to precipitation.

Releases continue out of Don Pedro over the spillway. The level is currently at 828.7 feet (out of 830). The Modesto Bee (Modbee.com) has updates on the releases and flooding for those interested.
