Clouds Rest End of July

Will I be able to hike over Clouds Rest the end of July with minimal to no snow cover? I'm thinking of starting at Sunrise Lakes TH and doing a 3-5 night backpacking trip. I have been over Clouds Rest once, its been 6 years and I really want to do it again. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks

Looking at the webcam ... you can still see snow all up and down Tenaya Peak...
So... it's probably 100% snow coverage still

I'm betting that the first few hundred feet of that hike ... crossing the Tenaya Lake exit ... could be a bit interesting, too.

I'm planning on showing up around 3-4am, then waiting to get a walkup permit. So it sounds like you think the trail won't be too bad at that time. I'm hoping TM wilderness permit center is open then, better than having to wait in the valley.

Be aware that walk-up permits can be picked up starting at 11AM the day Before the start date and all may be taken on that day.

There is a no-show policy that I think goes like the reserved permits have to be claimed by 10AM or 11AM or else they become available for walk-up on the start date.

Best bet is to get the walk-up permit the day before if at all possible.

Tioga road opens tomorrow I believe.
