This is probably crazy, but I would like to do Mount Clark this year, and there are a ton of approaches: I'm wondering if anyone has tried or considered going more or less straight from Nevada Falls Bridge, trying to follow the balder patches in the brush, to one of of the small lakes (approx 3 miles and 3000') at the toe of the northwest arete?

Yeah. I've gone up to Starr King Lake and beyond from Nevada Falls Footbridge cross country.

Cross footbridge... head upstream... then up slick rock and towards LYV and up to Starr King Lake.
From the lake up to 8129 ..

I probably have a few pictures. Will look later.

If you just want confirmation you are crazy... maybe you already got it?
