Re: 2020 vision is looking good

Yes, we know it's still 2019, but that hasn't stopped us from getting ready for next year.

We've already got our CDF campfire permit, available on-line after you watch a video and take a short quiz. You need one of these permits anytime you are going to have a fire outside your house--including a camp stove on a backpacking trip.

And a fishing license is now on its way as well, direct from the California Wildlife website. (Be a little careful here, as there is an ad for CA fishing licenses at the top of most Google searches. That's a private company that charges a few dollars more...)

And yes, we're also working on campground and backpacking reservations for a couple of our trips this summer.

So not only are we prepared--we're really getting excited about our hiking plans for 2020!

What are your plans? Are there any places worth visiting?

We have at least two trip to the Rockies planned. One in July to Banff, the other in August to Yellowstone. And we'll probably do a trip to Death Valley in March. Once we get an idea of the snow levels, we'll be more specific about the Sierra, but we certainly have a couple of trips in mind, including exploring the Lyell Fork of the Merced and maybe Lake Italy from Bear Creek further south.

For Yellowstone: We went for a week last August and saw all the wildlife on our wishlist: Black Bear, grizzly, wolf, elk, moose, tatonka. Hot tip is to stay at the Old Faithful Inn and rent bicycles to ride to geysers and grand prismatic.

Must do the flag lowering one evening on the roof of the old faithful inn. Start calling the bell desk on the day the inn opens for the season and put your name on the list. It's free, but difficult to get. Only 6 people per evening, at 5:45. The tour is amazing, but the view is better, and you get to see the geyser from a privileged vantage point.
