Anyone have any trip reports from mono meadow/ red peak pass. Wondering what damage was done from the King fire. Any reports on conditions for RPP. Skeeters or other reports. I’m Finally doing RPP! We hike in on Friday
Summary of trip: Mono meadow, lower Ottoway lake, RPP, red devil lake. Out and back. Great trip. Mosquitoes were minimal. King fire was out and only burned a small section north of domes. Camped at lower ottoway and we were the only ones there, except a falcon and all the fishies. Made it over RPP twice before noon, beating the thunder and lightning each time. Others arriving later were not so lucky. Thought about hiking down to mt Clark and then to bunnel cascades but the rain caused us to scratch the long distance loop. So bizarre with the hiker that died on Clark and now the guy missing near RPP. Twilight zone spooky. Be careful and always hike with a buddy or bring SOS device. Hoping the missing hiker is found alive. I actually hiked with a SAR person who is currently looking for the missing hiker.
