Please Join Christine Madrid French, Director of the Modernism Program with the National Trust for Historic Preservation for a presentation on: The Parks Go Modern: Mission 66 and the Invention of the Visitor Center

In 1956, Director Conrad Wirth introduced the Mission 66 program, a ten-year $1 billion effort to completely overhaul park facilities before the fiftieth anniversary of the Park Service. The visitor center, created by park architects and planners, became the flagship of the initiative and quickly developed into the hub of public activity. The distinctively modern and prominently sited buildings are now an important part of park history. We will take a quick virtual tour of the best examples across the US and examine ideas for adapting these buildings for new uses.

The Yosemite Forum is an interactive lecture series designed to bring evolving knowledge of the Sierra Nevada to the public and the park. http://www.nps.gov/yose/naturescience/yose-forum.htm
