Yosemite National Park Superintendent Don Neubacher announced that Charles Cuvelier has been selected as the Chief Ranger. Cuvelier, who is the park's Deputy Chief Ranger, has been Acting Chief Ranger since Steve Shackelton moved to Washington DC earlier this year to serve as the Associate Director of Visitor and Resource Protection.

Cuvelier has been at Yosemite since 2006 and assumes the leadership of a complex and dynamic Division which includes law enforcement, search and rescue, fire & aviation, telecommunications, emergency medical services, the Mounted Horse Patrol program, the Emergency Communications Center, and legal support services.

He is a 1992 graduate of the University of Memphis with Bachelor's Degrees in Biology and Outdoor Recreation. Prior to Yosemite National Park, Cuvelier served at Natchez Trace Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Cuvelier, his wife Beth, and their three daughters will continue to live in Yosemite National Park.
