Which Road to take?

Going to be traveling from Berkeley To Lone Pine's Whitney Portal road. Google maps tell me to go over the Tioga Pass as the fastest route. Would this be the fastest route? I have hear that it takes 2-2.5 hours to drive through it. Otherwise the other option would be to take the 5 to Bakersfield and the 178 to the 395 north. Will be traveling on this coming Friday.

Yes, Tioga Pass would be much better than going through Bakersfield.

As of this afternoon, the Pass is quite clear & very lovely.

Plan on a few extra hours to stop at the vistas, & check out Whoa Nelly Deli - they had live music today.

It was snowing on Friday. There was even some sticking around Deadman Summit on 395.
