In the interest of saving time and accomplishing two separate day hikes in one day, can anyone enter the Tuolumne Meadows campground (in August) for the purpose of parking closer to the Elizabeth Lake trail? This would eliminate about 1.8 miles round trip from the Visitors Center . This would allow more time to do Galyor/Granite Lakes the same day as well as spend time at the permit office picking up a reserved permit for the next day.

Just noticed I put this on the wrong forum--didn't realize where I was. I don't really get lost in the wilderness, just on computers.

Topic moved from GD forum.

That's the trailhead. So, yes. (done it many times)
Park right by the bathrooms there.... there are bear lockers right there for your convenience.
I rarely even stop at the kiosk.. just drive by and wave.

Chick-on is looking at you!

I really have to wave? I'd rather just look straight ahead and dumb.

Shaking a rubber chicken at them is actually the preferred gesture.
(If you have to speak to them, fake a Louisiana accent.)

In late July I parked right by the bear lockers if I remember correctly. Mmm, loved that hike.
