Mammoth Lakes Basin Roads to Open to Public Saturday June 11
Release Date: Jun 11, 2011 Bishop, CA
Contact(s): Nancy Upham
The Town of Mammoth Lakes has just completed snowplowing in the Mammoth Lakes Basin and the Forest Service will open access roads to the public on Saturday, June 11. Visitors should be aware that above average snowpack has left tall walls of snow, narrow roads, and limited parking. Hikers, bikers, and vehicles share these narrow roads and all users should travel with extra care and caution. The snow is rapidly melting and in the evenings, freezing temperatures could cause icy travel conditions. Parking is limited to the few spaces that are plowed open. Visitors are prohibited from parking in the roadway or blocking traffic with their vehicles. Most lakes in the Lakes Basin are still completely or partially covered with snow and ice. This snow and ice is not safe to walk or travel on and should be avoided. If visiting the Mammoth Lakes Basin, please travel slowly and use extra caution.
