Inyo National Forest District Ranger Margaret Wood has announced that the popular Children’s Nature Skills Camps will be returning to the southern Owens Valley again this summer. The six week program teaches youngsters ages 7 through 12 the outdoor skills needed for safe and enjoyable hiking, camping, wilderness cooking and outdoor survival. Field trips, enjoyment of the rich heritage of public lands here in the Eastern Sierra and a graduation camp-out are also part of the program.
Program coordinator John Louth said the programs will be presented for sixweeks beginning July 5th in Big Pine, Independence and Lone Pine. A separate program for the Bishop area will be announced at a later date. Sign-ups for the program are important as group size is limited. This free program is presented through a partnership of the Healthy Communities of Southern Inyo, the Inyo County Superintendent of Schools, and the Inyo National Forest.
