Southern California Edison to Stock Lake with Trout
Lake Water Level to Be Restored for Fishing and Recreation
Southern California Edison (SCE) recently completed work to upgrade the walls of the dam at South Lake Reservoir – just in time for the summer recreation season. The South Lake Reservoir upgrade involved the installation of a new liner to protect the face of the dam from current and future leaks.
SCE has already begun to increase the water level in the reservoir, which was reduced to accommodate the dam resurfacing work. While fishing from the shore was not impacted by the work at the reservoir, the water level at the lake is expected to be full enough to accommodate the launching of boats by the third week of July.
For fishing enthusiasts, SCE will be stocking the lake twice this summer with several hundred trophy sized Alpers trout – once in mid-July and again in early September. These fish, each measure approximately 16 inches in length, weigh around four pounds or more, and are significantly larger than the usual “planter” stock found in South Lake.
The reservoir should be full by August 1.
