The Bureau of Land Management’s Bishop Field Office will host a second public field trip to view vegetation conditions proposed for treatment in the Bodie Hills Upland Vegetation Restoration Project and clarify the treatment methods.

The field trip will begin at the Bridgeport Ranger Station parking lot on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 9 am. The BLM will provide several 4x4 trucks with room for three to four passengers each. Any additional private vehicles going on the trip should be high clearance, 4x4 capable. Participants should come prepared for a day outdoors with water, food, and sun protection. There may be some walking over rough ground.

The Bodie Hills Upland Vegetation Restoration Project proposal is a set of treatments targeting specific vegetation conditions across the Bodie Hills designed to protect and enhance the ecological condition of the area. The field trip is designed to clarify the proposal, correct misinformation and answer any questions from the public. The BLM has collected scoping input from the public on the proposal and is currently working on the Environmental Assessment for the project. When the EA is released there will be an additional opportunity for members of the public to comment.

The project proposal is posted on the Bishop BLM web site (http://www.blm.gov/ca/bishop.html). If you have additional questions, please contact Heather Swartz, Interagency Vegetation Management Project leader, at (760) 873-2561 or by email at heswartz@fs.fed.us.
