Parking Lots and Roadsides

Incidents: 4
Damage: $3,065

Bears have been very active this week in Yosemite. Most activity has occurred in Yosemite Valley between El Capitan and Yellow Pine Campground. Bears have also been very active in Camp 4 where several vehicles were broken into resulting in thousands of dollars of property damage. Proper food storage in vehicles is important both day and night. Make sure to not leave coolers or other attractants in the bed of trucks or outside of vehicles during the day and at night, remove all food and attractants from vehicles.

Four bears have been hit by vehicles so far this year. These were hit near the Big oak Flat entrance, Southside Dr., Glacier Point Rd., and in El Portal just outside the park. Please obey speed limits and scan roadsides while driving to ensure the safety of bears and other wildlife.
