A small earthquake rattled Yosemite Valley yesterday (Thursday) evening at 5:20 pm. Centered 10 miles east-southeast of Yosemite Village at a depth of 17 miles, the magnitude 2.7 earthquake vibrated the ground and produced a low, short rumble. Deep, small magnitude earthquakes like this are relatively common in the Sierra Nevada and are probably associated with movement of magma at depth.
