Twinkies have now officially been cleared for consumption after freezing, and about 10% will be shipped to stores in that condition.

This means that Chick-on and others are now allowed to use them on winter hikes with official approbation.

I froze them as a kid. The "cake" part doesn't freeze but the filling does. I could eat the cake part from around the frozen center and then eat that.
