Fish Fire - Firefighters Begin Rehabilitation in Golden Trout Wilderness

SPRINGVILLE, CA– Firefighters have been successful with fire line construction and mop-up. Containment on the Fish Fire has increased to 40 percent. Firefighters are now beginning to focus on the rehabilitation of fire lines constructed in the Golden Trout Wilderness of the Sequoia National Forest. Crews are working to reduce the visual impacts of fire suppression activities near hiking trails. Wilderness is defined as an area untrammeled by man retaining its primeval character and influence. In an effort to maintain wilderness values, suppression objectives include using Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics (MIST) without compromising firefighter safety.

Although smoke produced by the fire has decreased, smoke may be visible from the surrounding communities throughout the day and is likely to settle into the valleys overnight and in the morning hours.
