On September 12, 2013, Deputy District Ranger Sarah Tomsky for the Mammoth and Mono Lakes Ranger Districts signed a Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact for the Mono Craters Restoration Project Environmental Assessment (EA). The selected alternative will restore 6.3 miles of approximately 62 miles of unauthorized routes in the project area. It also added 2.9 miles and removed 1.7 miles of routes from the transportation system to protect resources and enhance recreational opportunities. The project area lies east of Highway 395 and south of Mono Lake near the Mono Craters. Restoration activities will include re-contouring, chunking, ripping, vertical mulching, and improving barriers to mitigate impact on natural and cultural resources.

The EA was made available to the public on June 30, 2013 which commenced the 30-day comment period. Comments were received from the Friends of the Inyo and the U.S. Pumice Company. All comments received were supportive and therefore, this decision is not subject to appeal pursuant to 36 CFR 215.12. Implementation may begin immediately.
