Sonora, Calif. (February 14, 2014)…The Stanislaus National Forest (NF) is closing the Crabtree cross country ski area and is opening a similarly groomed trail on the Summit Ranger District, Gooseberry Trail today.

In an agreement with Dodge Ridge Ski Area, Crabtree Cross Country Ski Area (located just southwest) will be closed and used to harvest snow temporarily for recreational use at Dodge Ridge.

Dodge Ridge Ski Area is grooming Gooseberry cross-country ski trail for public use, also located nearby and now open.

“”Gooseberry cross-country ski trail offers an equal visual experience for forest visitors,” said Molly Fuller, District Ranger, Summit Ranger District, Stanislaus NF. “Crabtree was actually un-groomable at this time and dangerous for skiing due to icy snow conditions on the ground. I think the public will appreciate Gooseberry far more.”

Visitors wanting to ski Gooseberry Trail will need to drive through the Dodge Ridge parking lot for access.

For more information, an information board will be available at the intersection of the road and the parking lot at Dodge Ridge Ski Area or visitors can call the Visitor Information desk at the Summit Ranger District at: (209) 965-3434 or call Dodge Ridge Ski Area at 209-965-3474.
