While the bridge is being replaced with a safer, two-lane bridge that will meet standard-highway, load ratings, access will be restricted on 4N01 between 4N13 and 4N90. This will also apply to pedestrian and bicycle traffic on the Sugar Pine Railway (Strawberry Branch), non-motorized, old railroad grade (18E318) from 4N90 to a point just east of 4N01 and 18 E318.
Construction will take place in two phases:
- Beginning Aug. 18 – excavation and tree removal near the site (no parking at trailhead, no through traffic for pedestrians or bicycles at construction site along Sugar Pine Railway (18E318), but through traffic is still allowed along Forest Road 4N01 with possible delays up to 30 minutes);
- Sept. 3 to Oct. 31 – In addition to the restrictions described above, 4N01 near the South Fork of the Stanislaus River will be closed during bridge construction, and no access of any kind will be permitted.
More updated information regarding this access restriction can be found at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/stanislaus/home under “Alerts & Warnings.” For more information about this news release or to speak with a Visitor Information Specialist about forest information and recreation opportunities, call the Stanislaus Supervisor’s Office at: 209-532-3671; Calaveras Ranger District (RD) at 209-795-1381; Groveland RD at 209-962-7825; Mi-Wok RD at 209-586-3234; or Summit RD at 209-965-3434.
