Sonora, Calif., (September 11, 2014)…Though opportunities still abound for recreation on public lands, cooler weather and construction projects are affecting availability in the Stanislaus National Forest, to include current and upcoming campground closures.

At Summit Ranger District (RD), some campgrounds have closed for the season, including: Meadow View, Boulder and Dardanelle Campgrounds. By Sept. 15, additional closures will follow and will affect the following campgrounds: Cascade Creek, Mill Creek, Fence Creek, Niagara Creek and Black Oak Flat Campgrounds.

Due to construction activity on the Fraser Flat Bridge, the Fraser Flat Campground will close Sept. 15. Tree removal near this campground, which has already begun, will necessitate that no parking occur near the trailhead and no through traffic for pedestrians or bicycles on the Sugar Pine Railway (18E318). Roadway 4N01, near the South Fork of the Stanislaus River will also be closed during bridge construction. Additional information can be found on the Stanislaus National Forest web site.

Visitors are encouraged to use campgrounds along the Highway 108 corridor; they will remain open through the Columbus Day Weekend. Other campground options include: in the Mi-Wok RD - Hull Creek Campground; and at Summit RD - Niagara ORV, Pinecrest, Pioneer Group Camp, Beardsley Camp, Sand Flat, Baker, Deadman, Clark Fork Loop A, Brightman, Pigeon Flat, Eureka and Herring Reservoir.

Additional questions regarding camping and road closures can be directed to a Visitor Information Specialist. Call the Stanislaus Supervisor’s Office at: 209-532-3671; Calaveras RD at 209-795-1381; Groveland RD at 209-962-7825; Mi-Wok RD at 209-586-3234 or Summit RD at 209-965-3434.
