Sonora, Calif. (August 27, 2014)…The Stanislaus National Forest has posted online the Final Rim Fire Recovery Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) and proposed Record of Decision (ROD) regarding the Rim Fire Recovery project.
Both are viewable at: http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/nepa_project_exp.php?project=43033.
Implementation of operations may begin after publication of the Notice of Availability in the Federal Register, which is expected on September 5.
As a multiple use agency, the Forest Service must carefully balance the varied needs of the public and the environment. The agency’s mission is to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the Nation’s forests in order to meet the needs of present and future generations – “Caring for the land and serving people.” Many individuals and public groups supplied comments regarding the EIS. Five thousand, five hundred and eighty eight total comments were received and have been instrumental in informing the decision maker, Stanislaus National Forest, Forest Supervisor Susan Skalski. It is the Forest’s desire to restore the area affected by the Rim Fire as quickly as possible, both to restore the ecosystem and to lessen the threat of future extreme fires.
