The Inyo National Forest is planning to repave the Silver Lake Campground on the June Lake Loop in the summer of 2016. The campground will be closed on June 1st through July 7th while the resurfacing is completed. Reservations are unavailable for this period on http://www.recreation.gov. There may be some sites available on a first-come, first-served basis for the Fourth of July holiday weekend if the work is completed prior to the weekend. There will be Forest Service crews working in the campground the month of May in preparation for the paving project in June.
Silver Lake is popular with recreationists because of its scenic beauty and because it’s central to many activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking. The resurfacing is much needed and is part of a capital improvement project funding to provide a quality visitor experience at the campground. The campground usually opens in late April, weather conditions permitting.
The Silver Lake Boat Dock Replacement is also planned for this summer. This project should have minimal impact on recreation activities in the campground.
