In California’s Sierras and around the world, extreme drought and rising temperatures are killing trees and threatening the viability of forests. Some ecologists are saying that land managers now need to adopt radically new strategies.

Too bad someone couldn't spell Sierra correctly.

I brought this to Ms.Marinelli's attention. Here is her response:
"Hello, I applaud your dedication to grammatical correctness! I will leave it up to others to decide whether the existence of the Ritter Range and the Inconsolable Range have any bearing on the accuracy of Sierra or Sierras."

Sierra- long rugged mountain range
Nevada - snowy

There is no plural. There is no Sierra(s) Nevada(s) Mountain(s). Just The Sierra Nevada. I'm done with my pontificati.

But... there is a legitimate use of "Sierra Nevadas": "I have three Sierra Nevadas in my bear can. Want one?"



As opposed to: "I have a Sierra Nevada in my bear can... Yum!"

There are definitely more.
