Damaged bridges affect PCT/JMT and Rae Lakes Loop in significant way

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park staff tell us that two important bridges are damaged. This likely a major issue for travel in the area. We’ll update this page as we learn more after Memorial Day weekend.
Woods Creek suspension bridge along the Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail is damaged
This bridge is at mile 800 of the PCT. Right now, Woods Creek is running very high. If you’re hiking the PCT northbound, we recommend being prepared with extra food and maps in case you need to turn around. You might be faced with going all the way back to Kearsarge Pass or Onion Valley. Looking at maps, we suspect that there are no easy ways to pass through this area if the river is not fordable.
