Spooky Meadow Trail Remains Closed

The Inyo National Forest is re-opening Rush Creek Trails with the exception of the Spooky Meadow Trail. The closures were put in place because of safety concerns for the dams in the Rush Creek Hydroelectric System (RCHS) after the significant winter and subsequent run-off, which meant that water levels would likely exceed seismic safety ratings in Waugh Reservoir. The RCHS is operated by Southern California Edison under a license with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Water levels have dropped enough to safely re-open all trails except:

Spooky Meadows Trail from its intersection with Rush Creek Trail, then south to its intersection with the Ansel Adams Wilderness Boundary below Spooky Meadow. This trail remains closed because of heavy construction activity being conducted by SCE to regulate water levels in the dams along the RCHS.

Visitors may call the Wilderness Permit Office at 760 873-2483 if they have questions about trail alternatives around the Spooky Meadow area.
