Fire crews are responding to a smoke report on the west flank of the Lions Fire. The fire was reported yesterday in the Cargyle Creek area, south of Corral Meadow, on the Sierra National Forest. The fire grew approximately 15 acres in size and showed slow growth yesterday through continuous fuels. Yesterday, helicopters helped scout the area and completed water drops along the fire’s edge. Today, Inyo National Forest’s Crew 2 has been flown in to establish containment lines and will continue to be supported by two helicopters.

The area has seen rain and lightning in the recent days. Warmer and drier conditions are in the forecast, but there is still the potential for lightning and showers in the area. There is currently no threat to life or property. Smoke may be visible from Minaret Vista, Devils Postpile, Mammoth Mountain, and areas along the Reds Meadow Road.
