With the incoming weather and colder temperatures, Fire & Aviation will be initiating pile burning in various areas through out the park starting on Dec 1st. Priority areas will be the community woodlot piles, followed by the smaller hand piles around Henness Ridge and 11 Mile Rd, as well as the Wawona Rd down to the Wawona campground.
Smoke produced from larger woodlot piles will be present for multiple days, up to a week or more. The larger diameter material will take time to consume. Smaller piles will produce smoke and be visible for a few days, starting with the day of ignitions. Appropriate signage will be posted in all areas of active pile burning.
