Portions of the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne River trail are now closed, due to the Wildcat
Fire. It's now > 300 acres.

Due to the steepness and rugged terrain, potential for rock fall and timber roll-out,and other significant safety issues, the primary strategy will be indirect until the fire finds it's way into more flat, accessible terrain. A four person fire module was flown into the area the evening of 7/29. This crew will hike into the fire area to evaluate the fire behavior and determine fire resource needs.

Air / Smoke Issues:

A large plume of smoke was visible from many Park locations, principally from the Yosemite high county, Tuolumne Meadows, various open areas along Highway 120 (Tioga Rd), White Wolf and Crane Flat. The smoke column was also reported from locations outside of the Park, particularly in the Tuolumne River drainage. Air quality could be affected in the Tuolumne Meadows area, and down canyon areas.
