Inyo National Forest visitor centers reopen

BISHOP, CA June 2, 2021 — Several visitor centers across the Inyo National Forest have reopened, including the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center. The Mono Basin Visitor Center hours are Thursday through Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Staff is providing in-person fuelwood permits, map and book sales and general forest information. South Tufa Interpretive Tours are also available, but visitors are asked to call in advance to learn more about scheduled dates/times at +1 760 647-3044.

The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association is operating their bookstore at the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center, Thursday through Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitor questions are being answered via phone call daily, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at +1 760 924-5500. Due to high call volume, visitor information staff will be doing call backs throughout the day to answer questions.

The White Mountain Ranger Station continues virtual services, including phone services, fuelwood permits, wilderness permits and all public information services at (760) 873-2500 daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Due to high call volume, visitor information staff will be doing call backs throughout the day to answer questions. White Mountain Visitor Center will reopen on June 24 and the hours will be Thursday through Monday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center is open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Interpretive programs are available upon request.

The Eastern Sierra Visitor Center in Lone Pine is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily or via phone at +1 760 876-6200.

Wilderness users must still apply for wilderness permits online using www.recreation.gov. Complete information about wilderness permits is available on the forest website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/goto/Inyo/WildernessPermits.

If you have not yet been vaccinated, we ask that visitors wear a mask and maintain physical distancing while inside Forest Service buildings and facilities.
