The Wildcat fire area received approximately a half inch of rain last weekend. Consequently, fire activity has been greatly diminished and no smoke is visible. The current acreage remains at 1235 acres. Yosemite Crew 6 will be brought out of the fire area for the time being. It is predicted, this lightning caused fire area, will experience higher temperatures and lower humidities through the rest of the week and into next. Based on the predicted weather, fire mangers will continue to monitor the burn area for hot spots and air quality.

All trails are now open through the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne River. Yosemite Crew 6 was able to open this clear this popular trail yesterday. However, visitors and backpackers are advised to use extreme caution hiking through the burn area and stay on the trail. Although crews have buffed up the trail, no doubt, hot spots in the ash will remain.

Prescribed Fire: Fire managers are planning a 91 acre, one day prescribed fire in the community of Foresta, within Mariposa County, on Wednesday August 26, if conditions allow and it is a “burn day”. Briefing will be at 8 am, and a small test burn will be lit to observe receptiveness of fuels to burn and smoke dispersion. Other information concerning this prescribed fire has been sent out and posted in various areas that may be affected by smoke.
