Yosemite National Park Employee Dies in Climbing Accident
Date: September 1, 2009

Jeff Maurer, a Wildlife Biologist at Yosemite National Park, died Sunday, August 30, after falling from the Third Pillar, a technical rock climbing route on Mount Dana. Maurer, 47, has worked in the park for the past 3 years. Prior to that, he worked at the Yosemite Institute, taught at the University of California at Davis, and did research for many conservation organizations.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident. This is a huge loss to the Yosemite National Park and National Park Service family. Our deepest condolences go out to Jeff’s loved ones,” said Acting Yosemite Superintendent Dave Uberuaga.

It has to be something coming up from Dana Lake.

Nope. It's on the East Side of the Dana Plateau.

Even if you don't climb it looks like an incredible place to visit.

The threads above don't give a feel as to where (when you look down from Mt.dana) the Pillar is. on the picture below, is the Pillar on the back side of dana, or the back side of the flattened platau (dana plateau) located on the east side of the canyon.

My condolences to family and friends...
(sorta don't like to put anything other than that in this thread)

But..

The Pillar is not on Bee's photo above... it's further North.

Here's an annotated photo : (zoom in to see the text)
