You can also see: Starr King, Liberty Cap, Mt. Broderick, Sentiel Dome, El Cap, and Half Dome
Billy Dome, the dome between Moraine and Bunnell has a cascade just below it. If you still have
Burns' NP series you'll see that dome with John Muir along the cascade. Not sure why
they didn't name the dome and cascade. Many people mistake that cascade for Bunnell Cascade.
Bunnell Cascade proper is further upstream.
If you look on google earth the picture on Billy Dome is incorrect. I tried putting a picture of
me up and moving that one but to no avail. If you look at this picture and the one on GE...
it should be obvious the one on GE is not located correctly.

I alluded to it above. They aren't named. Guess shoulda been more clear.
It's still "just" The Merced there. Lyell Fork and Triple Peak Fork are further upstream
beyond Washburn. If you look at your map more... amazingly it doesn't even
have any falls marked on the Lyell Fork. When the water is really flowing that
is something to see. I'll stick up a photo when I get more time.

Also, it never ceases to amaze me how tame an area can look on the topo maps -vs- how rugged it looks for real. A casual look on the topo map of that area would give the impression the trail is pretty flat between Merced Lake and the first footbridge below Washburn Lake. In actuality it's a 735' gain in altitude. The photo above looks far more rugged than I would have imagined from observing the map. The trail can wander around between two topo lines on the map representing 50' but the maps can not reveal all the ups and downs in the trail within that 50' range. This is part of the wonder of planning hiking trips using topo trail maps and/or Google Earth. It's still make believe. When you see it in person it's, "wow!".

It took me a while, but I finally found this area on Google map. I sent a note to Leon Turnbull from http://www.waterfallswest.com. Hopefully he'll have an answer for us.
There are loads of falls on the Merced b/t Merced Lake and Triple Peak Fork Falls.
The area marked as Falls below Washburn. I'm not even certain I took a photo of that
exact spot marked falls last June. I did take a zillion other cascades and falls along there though.
One of the better ones isn't even marked on the USGS map.
