The Sierra Nevada's tall trees, mighty mountains
from:The Charleston Gazette Charleston, West Virginia

THREE RIVERS, Calif. -- John Denver sang about "Almost Heaven West Virginia" and Colorado "Rocky Mountain High," but I guess he never went to Sierra Nevada in California.
This summer we went on an amazing 47-mile five-day backpacking trip in Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks in the southern Sierra Nevada on the Rae Lakes Loop Trail and saw some of the best nature has to offer.......

When you go past the log jam, a few hundred feet on there is a large rock next to a tree right on the river's edge.
There is a perfect natural cooler-sized (and cold) depression which I always use to cool the beer.

The short half-life of the beer means the bears miss out. So far.

It's an impressive log-jam. Before Lower Paradise up Woods.

(note to self: look for lonely beer just beyond this jam)

p.s. I'm waiting for Len to correct the mileage...

We'll do you one better:
That's the South Fork of the Kings River running through Paradise Valley.
[Woods Creek feeds into it at Upper Paradise.]

P.S. That's what you get for listening to Chick-on.

I never said it was Woods Creek.

Perhaps I meant Woods as opposed to Budd (trail).

The log jam is bigger than last time I was up there. It does make a small pseudo-lake above.
