Rent some snowshoes and walk down to the Tuolumne Grove.

Thanks that's a good idea. I didn't consider that.

You could also rent some cross country skis. It doesn't take all that long to stop falling down a lot winking smiley

A lot, ha? Actually, learning to ski is something I may consider. Not a bad idea.

Then there is just sitting in the valley and gaping at the wonder of it all.

Ranger-led snowshoe trip at Badger.

day or days???
If first visit, get on the shuttle with a map and ride the whole route. Then, go to the Visitor Center, Ansel Adams Gallery, get a map and walk the bike path, walk to Mirror Lake, visit the Awahanee. At the Visitor Center, connect with some of the organized ranger or auditorium events. Then, take the shuttle to a random stop near the Merced River get out, walk to a private spot and sit quietly in one place for about 10 minutes and just observe.

Some very basic, what-to-do, non-NPS info at the following link:

Great. Thank you. I didn't realize that organized ranger or auditorium events were held during the holidays.

My personal favorite thing was the guided snowshoe walk at Badger Pass. Once it starts they do it every day at 10:30 AM. There are also full-moon snowshoe walks about twice a month depending on when the full moon is. The daily walk has a recommended $5 donation for a snowshoe repair fund (or free if you bring your own), while the full moon walks are something like $18 if you don't have your own snowshoes. Basically what you need is of course cold weather clothing. Gaiters are good and most people wear waterproof pants or at the very least soft-shell pants.

They don't quite have tons of daily walks and talks, but there are enough. There's usually a daily walk on the subject of some nature subject. I haven't tried the daily photography workshop. There are often nighttime activities too.

How far from the TR gate to the grove? I'm going to San Diego for Xmas just might detour a little and these snowshoes need some work.

It's not far. Perhaps a mile or so.

TOPO! has it at around 0.85 mile with a 0.50k elevation differential.

That sounds about right. Just don't take off your snowshoes and expect not to sink (person experience!).

Excellent! Thanks! Got a camera to work with too (mine's been out since August)

Happy Christmas Trails!
