Yosemite National Park Recorded 3.9 Million Visitors in 2009

Yosemite National Park received 3,866,970 visitors in 2009. This marks the highest level of visitation in the park since 1996.

Visitation to the park peaked in 1996 with 4,190,557 visitors. Since 1996, the park has experienced a downward trend in visitation. This trend continued through 2006, with the park receiving 3,366,500 visitors. In 2007, the trend reversed and visitation began to increase.

Visitation to Yosemite National Park first hit the one million mark in 1954. The park saw two million visitors for the first time in 1967. In 1987, the park hit the three million mark with 3,266,418 visitors.

Twice, because I misplaced my Old Farts pass. So there were two of me.

I'm sure they did, Tom. The count is visitations, not people. Same goes for football, basketball, baseball, etc.

The web is a wonderful thing.

Of course they don't just count number or people. There is no way they could get it right.
(they don't ask how many are in your vehicle)
(and they never asked Mike "what's under that blankey back there?" or
"why do you always ask for a park map EVERY time you enter?" )

And... of course the number is a guesstimate.

btw. I actually got asked for an ID the last time I entered at end of Dec.
First time ever. Some newbie at the entrance.

I bet those brochures cost at least $1 each. I have about 2 million Yellowstone maps in my files. Time to retire, if I can sell them on ebay.

bill-e-g the only time I've been told to show ID was at Grand Canyon, to prove the name on my NP year pass matched my driver's license, and the lady at the kiosk was really distrustful and had this angry look, I know not why. I've never been asked for an ID anywhere else in NF, NP, NM, it's strange you were hit up for a photo. You're probably right, a newbie, in my one case I think the gal brought her home life to work.

Most parks ask for ID. Yosemite is an exception.

I get asked at Yellowstone regularly when I use the parks pass. Originally, they did not check, then about 5 years ago it suddenly became standard procedure. Off season, it is very rare to have anyone at the kiosk, perhaps they want to maximize return when it is staffed.

If you are using the NPS Seniors pass Yosemite will almost always ask for ID to make sure you and the pass holder are the same.
