Thanks for posting! Every little bit helps..I think this is a wonderful development!

There's already a lot of solar power used by the NPS.

I recall that the outhouse at Little Yosemite Valley has a solar panel system to run the charging/power system for the fans. The fans are there to reduce odors and help with the natural breakdown of the waste.

When I went to Yellowstone in 2006, the new Canyon Visitor Center was still under construction. It looked gorgeous (much better than the trailers they were using) and supposedly had solar panels on the roof.

It was complete when I went last May. Didn't see any solar panels though. But it was snowing at the time.

I heard it was completed in the fall of 2006. When I was there they had fences all around, but it looked like it was close to completion.

I believe all the HSC's have solar assisted toilets now to help break down waste.

Well...
I'm not sure about Glen Aulin
May Lake and Merced have flush toilets
Sunrise and (I think) Vogelsang have solar toilets.

Not only does Glen Aulin have it, I believe there is a sign there that sort of explains how it works.
