OK. To stir up the pot again I have been to Hall Road in Turlock very recently and taped Half Dome from there. (Turlock)
If anybody wants a one minute DVD of the zoom in zoom out of Half Dome from Turlock let me know. I tried to upload it to youtube but the resulting quality was poor. PM me if you would like a copy to play on your very own TV. It's free.

YouTube video now available thanks to Ron's technical advice:

If you have a Mac, try compressing with Quicktime and choose the H.264 encoder - that can reduce file size and keep higher quality. If you're using a HD camera, then DVD will a reduce the image size at lower quality. http://vimeo.com is also a good hosting site.

Turlock [Stanislaus County]. When the railroad reached the place in 1871, John W. Mitchell modestly declined to have the station on his property named for him and suggested the present name, after Turlough in the county of Mayo, Ireland.

The information above was copied from the book “California Place Names/ The Origin and Etymology of Current Geographical Names” by Erwin G. Gudde, Fourth Edition (University of California Press, Berkeley, 1998).

Ron,
Thank you for the technical advice. It seems to have worked nicely. The first attempts I made were a joke and I would not post them.

Not a crystal clear day but good. I will keep my eye out for better days but snow on HD helps.

We want to see his "I Survived Turlock!" tee-shirt to prove that he was really there.

P.S. He's probably going to claim that he 'forgot' to get one.

Finally, the definitive proof ...........although....except ..... perhaps....... an unusual cloud formation or sea gull deposit on the camera lens?

Nice! Thanks for taking the time to get the video uploaded & shared, and good job getting the image.

Image quality from Quicktime (or for any movie file, really) is all about frame dimensions and kilobytes per second, the kbps you see if you display movie info (command-i on a mac) when a movie is playing. 2000-2500 or so is pretty good and not greatly discernable from 4000+, in my experience. Cheers!
