View of Vernal Falls from Clark Point
May 15, 2010 10:06AM
I have seen many photos of that famous bird's-eye view of Vernal Falls taken from Clark Point. But when I look at the trail map, I don't see how that photo can be taken from Clark Point. It appears to be from a location somewhere on the connector trail between the Mist Trail and the John Muir Trail. I will be hiking the Mist Trail the last week of May and I would like to take that photograph. Can someone help me find the exact location for this picture?

You have to hike down the connector trail to get those shots.

Thanks EEEK. Approximately how far down the connector trail and would it be shorter to hike to it from the Mist Trail or from the John Muir Trail?

It's been a while and my aging brain can't remember that.

It's definitely shorter to just take the Mist up Vernal then go up towards Clark Pt.
Much quicker (provided there isn't a log jam coming up the Mist).
It's a shame anyone taking the connector misses that view. One of my favs.

I am going to do the loop up Mist Trail to the top of Nevada Falls and then down the John Muir Trail back to the Valley. But, I wanted to hike the connector trail just far enough to get that bird's-eye view of Vernal Falls. Is that location closer to the Mist Trail or is it closer the John Muir Trail? In other words, is it better to do it on the way up the Mist Trail toward Nedada Falls or is it better to do it coming down the John Muir Trail from Nevada Falls?

It's about 1/2 way. It don't matter.
I'd hit it on the way up though.

Keep your eye out for the overlook. It seems pretty obvious, but I see people on the connector trail missing the overlook all the time. I think they may be just looking down at their feet. smiling smiley

You're really worrying too much. You'll find it.
Walk up. As you go up... just keep right. There's a point where it looks like
the trail splits. go down there...

37 43' 34" N
119 32' 37" W

Your GPS may go bonkers in there though.
