* FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH MONDAY MORNING.

* ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES THIS WEEKEND COMBINED WITH MELTING
SNOW OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS WILL CREATE RISES IN WATER
LEVELS ALONG THE MERCED RIVER IN YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK DURING
THE NEXT SEVERAL NIGHTS. THE MERCED RIVER AT POHONO BRIDGE IS
EXPECTED TO CREST NEAR FLOOD STAGE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING THEN
PEAK JUST ABOVE FLOOD STAGE EARLY MONDAY MORNING AND PROBABLY
AGAIN EARLY TUESDAY MORNING.

* EVEN WHEN THE UPPER MERCED RIVER REMAINS BELOW FLOOD STAGE...
THERE ARE DANGERS IMPOSED BY THE HIGH WATER LEVELS AND THE
SWIFT COLD CURRENT.

* RESIDENTS...CAMPERS AND HIKERS SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR WATER
LEVELS ALONG THE UPPER MERCED RIVER AND HEED THE ADVICE OF PARK

IS ACTUALLY VERY COLD. OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS ARE ADVISED TO USE

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TRAVEL INTO THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA...THE
TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS...THE KERN RIVER CANYON OR THE SIERRA FOOTHILLS
THIS WEEKEND...REMEMBER THAT THE INCREASED COLD WATER FLOW IN
RIVERS...STREAMS AND RESERVOIRS...COMBINED WITH EXPECTED

I think that the all upper-case weather warnings are terribly hard to read. I, and I think many of us readers just skip over all-UC posts because we think the poster is uncouth.

That said, getting eeek off the hook, it's the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) that dictates that weather bulletins/messages shall be typed in all CAPS with line width limit of 69 characters.

The reason? To make sure teletypes can print the messages!

The WMO needs to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into the 1980's!

Just got back from camping in Yosemite Valley (5 nights, Lower Pines). Monday and Tuesday nights the river was quite high, over its banks in most places.. Swinging Bridge was closed as the water was just about to crest it. Campsite 62 was a river and a number of sites in North Pines were flooded. Falls all over the place and some flooding in some of the meadows. But by the time we left Friday the river had gone down at least 2 feet from Weds. and was back in it's banks, except for the western part of the Valley. Campsite 62 was water free and I would imagine they got most of the closed campsites in North Pines re-opened too. But what a sight the Valley was when we were there. Never saw so much water before!

Highway 41 in the park is a real bear though, construction delays and rough sections of torn up asphalt. We took 140 when we left and it was fine.
