grocery stores in fresno
June 08, 2010 10:13AM
Hi all!

Well, trip time has finally come-- our flight leaves first thing in the morning. We will be flying into Fresno, and taking 41 out, stopping along the way at a Fed Ex Kinkos to pick up some stuff we shipped. My question is, does anyone know of any grocery stores in Fresno near 41 (or, what the major California grocery chains are so that I can check their websites?)

Thanks so much :-)

There are two major grocery chains in Oakhurst, both at the junction of hwy. 41 and hwy. 49. Vons (owned by Safeway) and Raley's.
Neither has a web search feature for these specific stores (online shopping) but you can check out their online shopping feature to
get an idea of what they carry:

I really like Raley's a lot myself, and always shop there on my way in. I think the closest online-shopping store might be Modesto?:

Also, be advised that if you're staying in Yosemite Valley, the small grocery store in Yosemite Village has a pretty decent selection.

You're welcome! I think my favorite shopping trip the entire year is when I shop at Raley's on my way into Yosemite! grinning smiley

Hello and welcome to Yosemite..
Highway 41 in Oakhurst has a Safeway ( von's) , and do not forget to sign up for vons club.. its free ( will save you money on selected items)
Oakhurst is a nice town with a pizza factory , mcdonalds, round table , taco bell, cvs etc: all around safeway.. ( safeway also has a gas station)
You may want to stop for lunch at Chukchanchi casino and eat at Melody's or buffet..
Highway 41 is a SPEED TRAP.. DO NOT SPEED..
The valley store in yosemite has lots of food too and surprisingly reasonably priced..
Enjoy your trip.. And remember too that water is high "be careful" and halfdome has no cables up at the moment..

Fresno has a lot of the regional chains. The big names are Save Mart (with over a dozen in Fresno and Clovis) and Vons (owned by Safeway).

The last time I was in and out of Fresno, I stopped by a Trader Joe's, a Target, and a Wal-Mart (they have several). I don't think any of their Wal-Marts are the Supercenters with full-service groceries though. There is supposedly a Sam's Club with a full-service grocery.

I can tell you that for groceries, WinCo and Food Max will be cheap and Winco's bulk food section has some pretty great trail food type options. I get the dehydrated hummus and dehydrated refried beans, and the bulk candies and trail mixes.

Trader Joes is great for power and clif and lara bars, and all kinds of really good food. That's just off 41 at Blackstone and Barstow - you will want to exit on Shaw or Bullard, will have to backtrack south on Blackstone if you get off on Bullard.

Walmart has some groceries but hardly any selection. Most Walmarts are farther off teh freeway.

There is a Costco near Herndon and Blackstone off 41.

There is an REI at Nees and Blackstone, north of Herndon, so driving north on Blackstone gets you a lot of options.
