Great Pics. That's just the beginning of the crest? Pretty impressive. Definitely going to scope it out when I'm there.

Looks like there might bee a prehistoric Chick-on encased in granite (with only his comb showing)

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

Hey, he's sitting on my spot!

Seriously, what's the western slope climb up to the saddle like for average olde dude hikers as opposed to 15-20 mile/day middle aged billygoats? I'm thinking I may shed the pack part way up since I'm going back down the same way. At least snow cups will not be on the August agenda.

This peek-chure of the lake is really really nice. We are at my favorite time of year when it is getting warm during the day, but there is still snow (and the hordes of peeps have not gotten a clue, yet)

Goatie, post your route; I was looking at the map last night wondering which route you took.

Already been to Lower on day trip last year. This year going over Pass, cutting off trail around Cathedral Fork, circling around southern base of Echo Peaks, climbing up to saddle on northwestern slope of Matthes Crest, coming back down same way eventually hooking up with the sharp turn on Cathedral Fork trail from Sunrise. Where I camp that first night depends on how much gas I still have in my tank. I would like to get down a little below the Dolly Domes. No time to linger in that area any longer.

ic. hmm... IMO if you wanna get to Dolly Domes on day 1 .. a great way is the way I went in the map above...
but instead of heading to Matthes Lake... head to Echo Lake and follow it down to the trail.
Hike up to Budd Lake and enjoy it for a bit... then head up towards Echo Peaks...
traverse down and over and you're on the crest...
The view from Echo Lake is super too... (I think I showed you that from April).
If you go back up to Cath Pass and take the trail the whole way... then you have a couple of climbs before
you start down towards Dolly.

Anyway, have fun whatever u do
