Re: White wolf and Pate Valley conditions?

Anyone hike out of the White wolf entrance yet? Talked to ranger yesterday who said "there should be snow up there" though she wasn't sure of herself and didn't quite tell me how much. Is it snow covered such that trails are not visible? Planning to head down into Pate and beyond if conditions are right for it.

The gate was still closed on Sunday. No cars at gate.
Maybe we will find out soon if a couple people here go.
I've crossed Morrison on logs in early June before... and almost took a plunge
due to slippery logs... so there probably is a log ... but the south side
is very steep so... if you are carrying a large pack it'll be fun.
On way back I just walk thru it...
The good thing is that I know for certain the path thru it does not have any
big drops like Register crossing. So... if you are comfy with
very swift creek crossings it may be a non issue.
Typically this time of year it would be no big deal. Not so sure this yr.
with monster snow.

I highly doubt you're doing the Ten Lakes loop so... I'll say this again...
I recommend starting at Glen Aulin... go down to as far as you like...
(Register was an issue 2 wkends ago... ) ... turn around... and
come back.

If you're only going down to Pate and back then it really doesn't matter.
Just getting to Morrison is nice.
If you go that way take a pix of Harden and post it please.

Peter, when I last spoke with the wilderness permit office a few days ago, I was told that 1) the gate will likely still be closed this weekend, so you have to park on the side of the road and then walk to the trailhead from there (or YARTS will drop you off there if you use that shuttle). 2) you're likely to encounter some snow hiking into white wolf, but not so much as to be a problem. getting to the trailhead from White wolf should be straightforward.

No clue what Pate is like. In the end, looks like we'll just have to see for ourselves

This was posted for June 21 by some Geocachers hiking to Water Wheel Falls. They don't say much about the conditions, but I guess they made it.

Only two words to describe this cache: TOTALLY AWESOME. Eight friends and I were on our Mancation 2010 trip where we hiked 28 miles in 4 days going from White Wolf-Pate Valley-Muir Gorge-Grand Canyon of Tuolomne-Glen Aulin-Meadows. Great scenery all around and a great adventure. Ended up seeing deer,chipmunks, snakes, fish, and a bunch of other flora/fauna throughout the hike. We got here on day 3, about 16 miles into the trip. And I'm the first to log this year. Will post pics when I get done traveling in a week. There were plenty of hikers headed to the Falls going opposite direction of us but I guess they weren't cachers. Most physically demanding cache I've ever done with all the elevation change and switchbacks.

Good to know someone made it. Do you have the link to where that was posted?

Anyway, just for the record... Any advice/opinion I dole out errs on the side of cautious
due to I have no idea what peeps experience level is. Typical Joe Schmo hiker out
there doesn't do much to be honest (we did > 28 miles in 4 days on our GCT trip also...
and for 3 of the days it was > 1/2 the day of lounging.. so much so I had to go find
something to climb.. )

Mancation? O boy.... that's in the same league as calling something not epic epic.
Or staycation. geez... what's next? Hella Epic? Shoot me now

And I thought NPs really frowned on the geogache garb.

One other note... in case I haven't said it before... Myself... I really don't care what
the ranger says... just gimme the permit I wanna see for myself, thanks...

Someone else asked me about that and I put a few more in there w/ regards to it.
I do not recommend going up the way I went though... (the black dash)
unless u are comfortable with class 3 stuff and some friction climbing.
(I went counter clockwise) (and coming down was thru low shrub/boulder hopping)
