Pics from Lwr Cathedral Lake Area June 27-29

Three pano's from the Lower Cathedral Lake area. We entered from TM and were there June 27-29. It was really neat to be there in the middle of all that snow melt and an excellent learning experience traveling over the snow. When we entered the trail, it wasn't 100 % snow covered, but it was pretty close. When we exited there was still a lot of snow on the trail but we could see it the entire time plus the were now tracks to follow. Tresidder Peak can be seen in the pics, as well as little piece of Echo Peaks (very little). The half frozen lake is also hiding in there.

I saw your other posts on the JMT down from Cathedral through Sunrise into the valley. Any word on the conditions now? We want to do this trail on Sunday, the 4th. Rangers seem to think it ought to be OK - can you confirm? We want this to be a one-day down trip.

Thanks!

Back in the early 1990s, I was staying for a few days with my parents at TMHSC, and my father and I thought it would be a great idea to take an evening hike up to the lower lake just to see it.

About 1/4 mile from the lake, we encountered people descending the trail away from the lake at a rather noticable high speed.

Once we go to the lake, we stayed all of about 30 seconds. The. Worst. Mosquitos. EVER. Literally clouds of them swarming around the lake, into our eyes, mouths, you-name-it.

I assure you, there was nothing scary about the 1990s when one considers the 1980s ;-)

Olde Dude says skip over the seventies take a look at the sixties especially the early sixties. We are all lucky to be nonradioactive.

The duck-and-cover days! Are we now in the Chick-on and cover era?
