Illilouette Creek

Hey Everyone,

Next week two friends and I have wilderness permits to start at Happy Isles and camp above Illilouette Falls. It will be my first backpacking trip in Yosemite. I just want to make sure....Is it reasonable to rely on Illilouette creek as a water source right now? I know the water is low this time of year but just not sure HOW low. Any other advice anyone wants to provide about camping in this area would be great too!

Thanks!

You will find water in Illilouette year round. The fall will be pretty much a water hose now though.

You have to be quite a ways from the top of the fall to camp. Quite.
If you follow the park trailhead map you shouldn't even be going by the fall.

Reason for this is to disperse people across the wilderness...
If you wanted to camp along the Buena Vista trail then you really should have
gotten the GP->Illilouette permit.
If you follow the National Geographic Yosemite maps for where you can camp
you will be fine.

Have fun
